    January 27th, 2011.

    • Participated/read at Mashed Poetics VI The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
I took the challenge of writing to a song that was sent to me. How could I not.
Thursday Jan 27th at the Cottage Bistro (4468 Main Street) Show time 8pm. $5-$10 sliding scale.

What is Mashed Poetics? RC Weslowski (aka Randy Jacobs) says: “It’s a show that I organize where we mash up music and poetry. We get a cover band, a classic rock album and a gaggle of poets to come up with new work for the show. I assign one song from the record to each poet and they use that song as a writing prompt.” So the band plays a song and a poet reads what the song inspired, and it alternates that way for the night.

If it was your first time, it was my first time too:-)

Moderator: Vancouver Poet George McWhirter. Panelists: Rita Wong, Jabez Churchill, Daniela Elza, Christine LeClerc.
Discussion: At this years VIWF, Andreas Schroeder (a once-upon-a-time enthusiastic poet) said, woefully, Poetry has lost its audience. Has it? If it has, where has the audience gone instead? What did the audience want? Does poetry only have devotees now, poets writing for other poets, and no fans, no general interest? Has it separated the language of poetry from what Wordsworth called the real language? Is our crisis the same as in his time: too many rarified manners to satisfy the many?
